Evelyn Ross set down her phone.
The first dance had ended.
Julian Evans and Isabella Ashcroft stepped out of the dance floor.
They were immediately surrounded by guests again.
Tyler Evans swaggered over to her, a sneer on his face. "So what if you're Dr. Nan? A researcher can't compare to Miss Ashcroft's connections. Not just anyone can get close to the Roland family of New York!"
Evelyn ignored him.
Her gaze swept past the crowd.
She saw Mrs. Roland pushing Chloe Roland's wheelchair.
They stood with Mr. Roland and Ryan Roland.
Chloe seemed agitated, gesturing animatedly with her hands.
Evelyn frowned.
She wanted to go over and check on them.
She took a step forward.
Isabella blocked her path.
"Evelyn, are you going to see Mr. Roland?" Isabella's voice was soft, but her eyes were nervous. "He might not want to see you right now."
Evelyn gave her a cold look. "Move."
Isabella bit her lip.
She glanced at Julian.
Julian was staring at Evelyn, his eyes full of stunned admiration.
He seemed momentarily lost.
Isabella's nails dug into her palms.
She took a deep breath. "Evelyn, this is an important event. Don't make things difficult for Mr. Roland..."
Evelyn scoffed. "What gives you the right to stop me?"
Isabella immediately put on a hurt expression.
Julian finally snapped out of it.
He stepped in front of Isabella, shielding her. He glared at Evelyn. "Isabella is my fiancée! She's the hostess of this banquet! That's what gives her the right!"
The surrounding guests chimed in.
"Miss Ashcroft is a lady of high status. Of course she has the right to speak!"
"This woman has no manners!"
"Isn't she Mr. Vance's guest? But a guest can't compare to a fiancée!"
Evelyn had no patience for this.
She turned to leave.
Isabella suddenly grabbed her hand.
"Evelyn, don't go..."
Evelyn shook her off.
Isabella fell to the floor with a sharp cry.
Julian was instantly furious. "Evelyn Ross! How dare you push her?!"
Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "I didn't touch her."
"Everyone saw it! How can you deny it?" Julian's face was dark with anger. "Apologize to Isabella now! Then get out of here!"
Isabella tugged at Julian's sleeve. Her voice was gentle. "Julian, it's okay... I'm fine. Evelyn didn't mean it. But Mr. Roland said he didn't want to see her. For the company's sake, maybe she should just leave..."
Julian snorted. "Isabella, you're too kind!"
He looked at Evelyn, his tone harsh. "Did you hear that? Mr. Roland doesn't want to see you! Get out on your own, before I call security!"
The guests began to criticize her.
"Just leave! Don't ruin the important matters!"
"How shameless. Can't she hear that Mr. Roland doesn't want her here?"
Jason Lawrence strode forward.
He positioned himself in front of Evelyn. "Miss Ross is a guest invited by Mr. Vance. Who dares to throw her out?"
Julian laughed coldly. "I do! Even if my uncle gets angry, I will make her leave today! I won't let her ruin the cooperation between the Vance Group and the Roland family!"
The crowd murmured in agreement.
"Mr. Evans is right!"
"This woman is nothing but trouble. Mr. Vance and Mr. Roland are already at odds. She's just making it worse."
"Miss Ashcroft is virtuous. She helps Mr. Evans maintain his connections..."
The argument grew louder.
It attracted the attention of the entire room.
Chloe was arguing with her brother.
She suddenly noticed the commotion in the northeast corner.
She gripped her wheelchair tightly. "Is something happening to my savior over there?"
Mr. Roland looked at Ryan Roland.
Ryan frowned.
He finally nodded.
All four members of the Roland family moved toward the crowd.
