Sunlight filled the courtyard.
Evelyn Ross stood beneath the corridor, gazing toward Eleanor Vance's residence.
She couldn't comprehend Alexander Vance's intentions.
Alexander chuckled softly. "Of course I'm at ease."
Evelyn was slightly taken aback.
Alexander lowered his gaze. "Cecilia Evans needs Grandma alive."
Understanding dawned on Evelyn instantly.
Richard Evans had mentioned that the shares in the will were left to Alexander.
The eldest branch had to ensure the old lady's safety.
So this apparent concern was ultimately outweighed by self-interest.
Alexander continued. "Dr. Liam Lawrence's identity checks out."
Evelyn frowned. "This is too passive."
Thomas Watson sighed. "Dr. Nora is incredibly difficult to locate."
He glanced at Alexander and cleared his throat softly.
Some things were better left unknown to Miss Evelyn.
Evelyn pressed further. "How did they obtain the medicine?"
Thomas speculated. "They might have stolen it."
Evelyn was stunned.
Thomas explained. "Dr. Lawrence took the medicine behind Dr. Frank Melville's back."
Evelyn's mouth twitched slightly.
She was only learning this now.
Alexander spoke abruptly. "Grandma isn't that easily fooled."
Evelyn recalled past events.
The old lady had always managed to find her with uncanny accuracy.
Alexander opened the surveillance feed on his phone.
The screen clearly showed the bedroom's interior.
Cecilia Evans closed the door and smiled at Dr. Lawrence. "Thank you, cousin."
Dr. Lawrence waved a hand dismissively. "No need for formalities among family."
They approached the bed and called out softly.
Eleanor Vance slowly opened her eyes.
Her gaze was confused. "Who are you?"
Cecilia replied gently. "I'm Cecilia Evans."
The old lady seemed to remember. "Ah, the love child."
Cecilia's expression stiffened.
She continued explaining the difficulties of acquiring the medication.
The old lady nodded, touched. "You're a good child."
Cecilia seized the opportunity to mention her dowry.
But the old lady looked perplexed.
She said she needed to ask Alexander.
Then she claimed fatigue and asked to rest.
Evelyn couldn't help but laugh softly.
The old lady was putting on quite an act.
The butler hurried over. "Mr. Charles Valentine is here."
Alexander looked at Evelyn. "Please show him in immediately."
