"Dr. Lawrence, this way please."
Cecilia Evans smiled as she led the way.
The man referred to as Dr. Lawrence glanced around.
The luxurious decor made him momentarily daze.
His gaze swept over the crowd before settling on Evelyn Ross.
He paused.
Years ago, he had been fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of Dr. Nora's profile.
The woman before him bore a slight resemblance.
Evelyn studied this research institute personnel.
She frowned slightly.
She was familiar with Frank Melville, dean of the New York research institute.
He always delivered the medicine personally.
But she had never seen this Dr. Lawrence before.
Cecilia seized the moment to introduce him.
"Grandpa, Dad, Uncle."
"This is Dr. Lawrence."
"He is my boyfriend's cousin."
"He works at the research institute."
She turned to Evelyn with a deeper smile.
"Auntie mentioned submitting a case before."
"The institute has strict screening with no backdoors."
"That is indeed true."
"Cousin just told me."
"The Valentine family from New York requested a slot."
"Dean Melville came to San Francisco overnight to avoid suspicion."
"This trial slot is truly hard to obtain."
Dr. Lawrence breathed a sigh of relief.
Dr. Nora could easily get a slot.
Why would she need to submit a resume?
He must have mistaken her.
He smiled and chimed in.
"This drug is very expensive."
"Headquarters only gave fifty slots for the entire country."
"All are personally selected by Dr. Nora."
"It's almost impossible to use connections."
"If not for Miss Evans's moving filial piety."
"I wouldn't have begged the dean to make an exception."
Cecilia immediately expressed gratitude.
"Thank you, Cousin."
"This slot is too precious."
"You've been a great help."
Richard Evans and Robert Vance repeatedly thanked him.
Evelyn noticed the box in Dr. Lawrence's hand.
She sneered.
The medicine box bore the logo of the biotech company.
It was the special drug she developed.
Was there underhanded manipulation at the New York research institute?
Dr. Lawrence spoke up appropriately.
"Dr. Nora's drug has remarkable effects."
"Shall we try one injection for the elderly lady first?"
Everyone made way.
Dr. Lawrence approached the sickbed.
He took out a dose of the special drug.
He slowly injected it into Eleanor Vance's arm.
Eleanor gradually grew drowsy.
She yawned and closed her eyes to sleep.
Dr. Lawrence explained.
"The drug contains sleep-inducing components."
"It allows the patient to regain consciousness during sleep."
"She will show improvement an hour after waking up."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Cecilia smiled and suggested.
"Cousin, there are too many people in Great-grandma's room."
"Is it inappropriate?"
Dr. Lawrence immediately understood.
"The patient needs quiet."
"Please everyone step out for now."
"I need to observe the patient's physical changes."
"Miss Evans can stay to assist."
Evelyn's eyes darkened.
Trying to control Grandma again?
She spoke directly.
"I can help with data recording."
Cecilia immediately rebutted.
"Auntie, don't you understand?"
"Research institute data is strictly confidential."
"It involves core technology."
"Only internal personnel can record it."
"Your words put Dr. Lawrence in a difficult position."
Dr. Lawrence was gentle but carried a threat.
"I took a risk to secure this slot."
"All recorded data must be submitted."
"If this young lady doesn't cooperate."
"The slot will have to be given to someone else."
Robert Vance immediately scolded angrily.
"Alexander's wife, why are you interrupting?"
"Get out immediately."
"Do you want to kill Grandma?"
Richard Evans added sinisterly.
"Alexander loves Grandma the most."
"Grandma made a will."
"All shares are left to you."
"You're not doing this on purpose, are you?"
Evelyn frowned, about to speak.
Alexander Vance held her hand.
His expression was calm.
"Let's go out first."
He led Evelyn out the door first.
Robert Vance and Richard Evans followed.
Richard Evans looked smug.
"Alexander, you and your wife move to the main hall."
"Dr. Lawrence has a confidentiality agreement."
"Dad, for Cecilia's sake."
"Everyone except Fiona should move out."
"Daily visits require Dr. Lawrence's permission."
Robert Vance nodded in agreement.
He looked at Alexander Vance, thinking how to persuade him.
Evelyn was about to refute.
Alexander Vance nodded directly.
"Okay."
Evelyn was slightly stunned.
She chose to remain silent.
Alexander always had good judgment.
Since he decided this, he must have a plan.
Evelyn followed Alexander Vance out.
Thomas Watson was already waiting outside.
Evelyn looked at Alexander Vance.
"Tell me, what's the plan?"
"Are you really comfortable leaving Grandma with them?"
Meanwhile.
Outside the Vance family gate.
A black luxury car sat quietly parked.
Mr. Valentine sat in the back seat.
Marcus Valentine got out and knocked on the iron gate.
"Who is it?" a Vance security guard asked.
Marcus Valentine curled his lips into a smile.
"Tell Alexander Vance."
"Mr. Valentine is here for a visit!"
