Give Up Hope!
Liam Lowell's screams were ignored.
The reporters were already convinced when the police played the recording.
The officer continued. "A recording alone isn't enough for a conviction."
"But we found the phone he discarded and recovered its data."
"We discovered a recording from just before the victim's death."
"It perfectly matches what Miss Evelyn Ross heard upon arriving at the scene."
"This proves he had already killed the victim and framed her before she arrived."
"The evidence is irrefutable. This is the arrest warrant."
The officer displayed the warrant.
The reporters quickly cleared a path.
Liam was forced into a police car.
The live stream abruptly ended.
…
In the Vance family living room.
The reversal happened too fast. Everyone was caught off guard.
Alexander Vance coldly glanced at Julian Evans. "Miss Evelyn is not the killer."
"Do not let me hear that term for her again."
Julian was speechless.
The butler hurried in. "Sir, the police are here."
"They wish to ask Miss Evelyn to come to the station to assist the investigation."
Julian perked up. "Uncle, even if she isn't the killer, she's still involved!"
"Going to a place like the police station is unlucky and unsavory."
"She is not fit to remain in the Vance family!"
The butler coughed awkwardly. "They are actually here for… Miss Isabella Ashcroft."
Julian froze.
He turned sharply to Isabella. "What does this case have to do with you?"
"Why are the police looking for you?"
Isabella's face turned deathly pale.
She was flustered and unsteady on her feet. "Julian, I…"
Her mind was filled with thoughts of Liam. She had no energy to placate Julian.
Evelyn chuckled lightly. "Don't be nervous."
"The police probably just want Isabella's help with the investigation."
"The person talking to Liam on the recording was you, right, Isabella?"
"Why did he contact you first after committing murder?"
Isabella swallowed hard and clenched her fists.
Under Julian's suspicious gaze, she quickly explained. "I… I don't know…"
"I felt sorry for him before and gave him some money a few times."
"He just latched onto me after that…"
Evelyn lowered her eyes. "So you were the one who gave the recording to the police?"
"After all, you're the only one who would have a record of that call."
Isabella wanted to deny it.
But Evelyn took a step closer, looking directly into her eyes.
"If it wasn't you, why would you help him hide it?"
Isabella was backed into a corner.
She couldn't find a better excuse!
She had no choice but to grit her teeth and admit it. "...Yes. It was me."
"No wonder the police want you to assist the investigation."
"You'll tell them the truth at the station, won't you?"
Isabella remained silent.
She took a deep breath and turned to follow the butler.
Evelyn suddenly looked at Julian. "Aren't you going with her?"
Julian was taken aback.
Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "She's your fiancée. Aren't you concerned?"
"A place like the police station is quite unlucky and unsavory."
Provoked, Julian immediately went to Isabella's side. "I'll go with you."
Isabella stiffened.
She absolutely did not want Julian to come along!
But Julian was insistent. He directly led her out the door.
…
Interrogation room at the police station.
The officer asked, "What is your relationship with Liam Lowell?"
Isabella explained. "There is no relationship."
"In middle school, I saw he was being isolated. I felt sorry for him."
"I helped tutor him a few times. He just latched onto me after that."
"He called me frequently…"
The officer pressed further. "He contacted you immediately after the murder."
"Why didn't you persuade him to turn himself in?"
Julian was right beside her. Isabella didn't dare say anything reckless.
She could only distance herself. "I never imagined he would be deranged enough to kill his own father…"
"I was shocked. It was the first time I'd encountered something like this."
"I did advise him to turn himself in. He wouldn't listen."
"He threatened to kill me if I dared say anything."
"Officer, please don't let him know the content of our discussion today."
"I'm afraid he'll seek revenge after he gets out."
"We will protect our witnesses."
The officer nodded. "Were you the one who anonymously sent the recording?"
Isabella forced herself to admit it. "Yes. I wanted to help with the case…"
"Thanks to the recording you provided, we were able to identify the suspect."
"We found the phone he discarded."
"A few more days of rain, and the phone would have been ruined. The evidence would be gone…"
The interrogating officer stood up. "On behalf of the police department, thank you for providing the evidence."
Isabella waved her hand. "It's a citizen's duty…"
The officer gestured toward the door. "Thank you for your cooperation. I'll see you out."
Isabella and Julian walked out.
She asked uneasily, "Officer, you really won't tell Liam about our talk, right?"
"His eyes were terrifying. I hope you can protect me. Please don't let him know."
The officer assured her. "Don't worry. He won't be told."
Isabella left the station with a troubled heart.
She stepped outside and looked back.
The night was deep. The entrance was brightly lit. Officers busily came and went.
She wondered which interrogation room held Liam…
Isabella took a deep breath. A mocking smile touched her lips.
This was better. With Liam locked up, he could never bother her again!
"What are you staring at? Get in the car!"
Julian's voice pulled her from her thoughts.
She lowered her head. "Julian, I'm scared of retaliation…"
"I'm here. Don't be afraid."
Julian protectively helped her into the car.
They didn't notice the dark window on the police station's third floor.
Liam was staring down at them with a venomous gaze.
Click.
The lights turned on.
Evelyn, Alexander, and Grace Lorenz were sitting in the room, watching him.
Evelyn lightly tapped the table. "You heard the interrogation?"
"You saw the scene downstairs?"
"Now, is there anything you want to say to me?"
