Chloe Roland said firmly, "I'm not leaving."
Mr. and Mrs. Roland were stunned. "Chloe, don't be stubborn..."
Chloe's eyes reddened. "She saved me when I was dying. Now she's in trouble, I can't abandon her. San Francisco has excellent rehabilitation facilities. I'll wait for her recovery right here in this hospital."
Mr. Roland frowned. "What if Miss Ross really did kill someone?"
Chloe bit her lip. "Then I'll visit her in prison every week. She has almost no family. She'd be devastated if I didn't go see her."
Mr. Roland sighed helplessly. "Do you plan to live here indefinitely?"
Chloe lowered her head and stayed silent, reverting to her usual spoiled demeanor.
Ryan Roland watched his sister and felt a wave of relief.
Since the betrayal by her husband and mother-in-law, Chloe had been lacking confidence. Her ability to act willful again showed her mindset was improving.
He pondered for a moment. "I have matters to attend to at the company in New York. I'll head back first. Mom, Dad, please stay in San Francisco with Chloe for her rehab. Consider it a vacation."
Mr. Roland sighed. "Alright."
…
Isabella Ashcroft did not leave with Mrs. Ashcroft and Mr. Ashcroft. She remained at the hospital.
When she entered Eleanor Vance's room, the elderly woman was watching a show through her reading glasses, humming a tune.
Hearing the knock, Eleanor looked up. Her expression instantly darkened. "Why are you here?"
Isabella smiled. "Madam, there's something I need to tell you…"
Eleanor waved her hand dismissively. "I don't want to hear it. Get out."
Two bodyguards stepped forward to escort Isabella out.
Isabella quickly exclaimed, "It's about Evelyn Ross!"
Eleanor paused. She peered over her glasses. "What about my granddaughter-in-law?"
Isabella was taken aback. "Granddaughter-in-law?"
"Evelyn! What happened to her?"
Thinking the old woman was confused again, Isabella played along. "She killed someone. She was arrested. She was released on bail yesterday. It's all over the news today. Haven't you seen it?"
The news…
Eleanor hurriedly grabbed her phone. She saw the trending topic: #RichHeirBuysJustice#
Clicking in, she found an interview video by reporter Ethan Young.
Evelyn and Liam Lowell's faces were blurred, but anyone familiar would recognize them immediately.
Eleanor read the news report. Twitter was already flooded with angry comments:
—We must find out who this rich heir is! Make her pay with her life!
—If the reporter hadn't exposed this, the victim would have died in vain? The son actually signed a Letter of Forgiveness for money…
—A life for a life! It's only right!
—Expose this family! Boycott all their products!
…
Eleanor grew more alarmed with each comment.
Seeing this, Isabella seized the opportunity. "Madam, Evelyn's reputation is ruined. You should distance yourself from her to avoid implicating the Vance Group…"
A sharp glint flashed in her eyes.
Evelyn's arrogance relied entirely on Eleanor's support. Without that backing, let's see how long she can stay proud!
Eleanor indeed frowned. "The Vance Group?"
Isabella nodded. "You should tell Mr. Vance to stay away from her… I saw him taking care of her at the hospital. If reporters catch him, they might think the Vance family is connected to Evelyn. That would be troublesome."
Eleanor nodded repeatedly. "Yes, yes, we can't let anyone take pictures…"
She immediately called Alexander Vance. "Are you at the hospital? Are there reporters there?"
Alexander's deep voice came through the phone. "How did you know?"
"Never mind how I know! You must protect your privacy. Don't let the reporters get any pictures…"
A smirk tugged at Isabella's lips.
When it came to reputation, the Vance family would certainly cut ties…
But then she heard Eleanor continue, "…Don't let the reporters get pictures of Evelyn! A young woman needs to save face! Even if this is resolved, being pictured on a trending topic would make it hard for her to show herself in the future!"
Isabella's eyes widened in shock.
Eleanor was still instructing him. "You brat, you didn't even tell me about such a big incident! How is Evelyn? Do I need to come over?... No? Then don't go to work. Stay at the hospital and protect her! If you can't protect her properly, don't come home!"
Isabella was ushered out of the room just as she heard those words.
She stomped her foot in frustration, her eyes dark and venomous.
…
Hospital room.
Alexander hung up the phone and rubbed his nose.
His grandmother's words still echoed in his ears. "You brat, this is your perfect opportunity! Where are you sleeping at night? The sofa? How can you sleep on the sofa? Squeeze into bed with my granddaughter-in-law!"
The bed…
The room had a single bed. Two people could indeed squeeze into it, but they would have to press closely together…
The tips of Alexander's ears turned slightly red. He cleared his throat. "I need to go to the office to handle some matters."
Evelyn, lying in the hospital bed, nodded. "Okay."
Alexander reached the door, then turned back. "I'll come have dinner with you tonight."
Evelyn wanted to say it wasn't necessary, but meeting his deep gaze, she swallowed her words.
She nodded gently. "Okay."
After Alexander left, Evelyn expected to be bored. Instead, Mr. and Mrs. Roland brought Chloe to visit.
The three of them chatted with her, making time pass quickly.
Chloe and Evelyn spoke in low voices. Mr. and Mrs. Roland sat on the sofa. Their phones buzzed simultaneously.
Mr. Roland took out his phone. It was a message from Ryan. [Mom, Dad, I'm home.]
He glanced at Evelyn.
The more he looked, the more she resembled the Mrs. Nan from his memory…
Mr. Roland suddenly sent a message to his son. [There's a photo album in the second drawer of my study. Page eighteen has a photo of me and Mrs. Nan. Take a picture and send it to me.]
