Chapter 89

James Klein froze in place.

By the time he processed it, Alexander Vance was already striding forward.

James hurried to catch up. "Mr. Vance, are you planning to force your way in?"

Alexander didn't answer, heading straight for the detention center interior.

James was sweating with anxiety. "This is too risky! We can't do this!"

Alexander's steps didn't falter, his voice icy. "Wait until tomorrow? Can she afford to wait?"

"No, she can't!"

James clenched his fists. "The boss's condition can't be delayed. Last time the transfusion was a little late, she went into shock. They almost couldn't save her..."

He gritted his teeth. "Her condition is too rare. They'd never believe it! For the boss, we have to try!"

They rushed to the entrance and were immediately stopped by officers.

"Halt! This is a detention center. Entry is prohibited!"

Alexander ignored the warning and continued forward.

Captain Durant rushed in, gun drawn and aimed at Alexander. "Mr. Vance, stop right now or I'll shoot!"

Alexander halted, his expression calm.

James's legs went weak, cold sweat pouring down his back.

Captain Durant relaxed slightly. "Mr. Vance, explain your actions."

Alexander said coolly, "Looking for the restroom. Took a wrong turn."

James stood stunned, a chill in his heart.

Alexander turned and started walking back.

James remained rooted to the spot.

Captain Durant looked at him. "Mr. Klein?"

James took a deep breath. "I—"

Before he could finish, Alexander suddenly moved!

He seized Captain Durant's wrist in a flash, disarmed him, and pressed the gun to his forehead.

Captain Durant was completely stunned.

James stared in disbelief.

Alexander's voice was low. "I'm sorry. I have to save her."

He held Captain Durant as a shield and moved forward. "Step aside!"

The detention center officers fell back.

James steeled himself and followed.

Evelyn Ross lay on a hard bunk, her face pale.

Two officers were preparing to take her and Linda Lowell to solitary confinement.

Evelyn looked at Grace Lorenz. "I really am anemic."

Her lips were colorless, her breathing shallow.

Grace hesitated again.

Linda suddenly collapsed to the floor, writhing. "Oh, I'm dizzy! I'm dying!"

Grace frowned.

Linda's acting was exaggerated.

But Evelyn was genuinely weak.

A commotion erupted outside.

Alexander burst in, holding Captain Durant hostage.

His eyes immediately found Evelyn.

She lay there虚弱ly, too weak to even lift a hand.

Alexander's heart clenched.

She was always so proud, yet now she looked so fragile.

He glared at Grace Lorenz. "Is this how you treat a suspect?"

Grace defended herself. "We're following procedure!"

James charged in, eyes red. "The boss is on the verge of collapse, and you're putting her in solitary? Have you no humanity!"

Captain Durant sneered. "Can a period kill someone? If you're faking, pick a better excuse!"

Grace looked at Evelyn. "Evelyn, if you didn't kill anyone, we'll clear your name. Why do this?"

Evelyn gave a bitter smile. "Grace, did you ever believe me?"

Grace's eyes reddened. "Why should I believe you? You lied to me again and again!"

Evelyn said nothing more.

Alexander moved into the cell, still holding Captain Durant. "Can you walk? We're leaving."

"I can."

Evelyn tried to sit up, but fell back weakly.

Alexander handed the gun to James. "Take this."

James was stunned.

Alexander bent down, scooped Evelyn into his arms, and turned to leave.

James held Captain Durant and followed close behind.

Grace led a team in pursuit.

They rushed into a hospital, causing a stir.

Evelyn lost consciousness. Doctors urgently drew blood for tests.

Grace stayed close to the doctor. "I'm supervising the entire process to prevent any tampering!"

Police surrounded the hospital. The doctor worked under pressure.

Ten minutes later, the expedited report was ready.

Grace snatched the report and looked at the data column.
