Alexander's eyes darkened.
What was her relationship with him?
James' girlfriend?
In a flash of insight, he pieced it together.
Evelyn couldn't have stolen the solution.
It was too brilliant. Jason had said only Dr. Nan could complete something like that so quickly.
So...
Her solution came from James.
But James hadn't informed Dr. Nan. Otherwise, Dr. Nan wouldn't have sent another copy to Julian, causing this misunderstanding.
The business world is a battlefield. Why would James hoard Dr. Nan's solution? Did Dr. Nan know? Would he really clear Evelyn's name?
Alexander asked in a low voice, "Are you sure he'll come?"
"Of course."
"You trust him that much?"
"Yes."
James never dared to disobey Evelyn's orders.
Her matter-of-fact attitude inexplicably irritated Alexander.
This woman was such a naive romantic.
He suddenly said coldly, "Miss Ross, don't forget we are still legally married. I don't want any rumors spreading."
Evelyn was stunned.
She looked at the man in surprise, not understanding why he brought this up now.
Alexander felt even more frustrated.
He loosened his tie, his voice deep. "Please maintain appropriate boundaries during our marriage."
He turned and walked into the hospital room.
Evelyn was completely bewildered.
Did his meeting not go well today? He was so moody and speaking nonsense.
She didn't overthink it and followed him in to stay with Eleanor.
In the outer living room.
Alexander instructed Thomas, "Investigate James Klein."
"Yes, sir."
Thomas was extremely efficient. Half an hour later, he presented the information. "Sir, I've sent it to your phone."
Alexander opened the file.
James Klein, 27, Cambridge graduate. Became Dr. Nan's agent three years ago. Managed the company steadily. Now preparing for IPO.
Alexander frowned. "That's it?"
Thomas was confused. "What else do you need, sir?"
Alexander said calmly, "His personal life."
"..."
Thomas was surprised but quickly reported. "He's generous. Changes girlfriends every three months. His exes speak well of him. Currently maintains ambiguous relationships with multiple women. Not a committed type."
Thinking of Evelyn's trust in him, Alexander smiled mockingly.
He took his phone and entered the hospital room, ready to expose the truth.
Upon entering, he saw his grandmother wearing reading glasses and flipping through a dictionary. The woman was squatting on the floor playing with the dog.
The Shiba Inu wagged its tail wildly.
She laughed brightly and beautifully. Pure and stunning, like the cleanest scenery, making him reluctant to ruin it.
Alexander paused.
Should he tell her this cruel truth?
He gripped his phone, hesitating.
"What's wrong?"
Eleanor suddenly looked up.
Alexander pressed his lips together and put away his phone. "Nothing."
Eleanor didn't believe him. "You've been staring at your wife for so long. Something must be wrong. Do you have something to say to her?"
Evelyn looked up at him, her gaze clear.
Alexander's ears warmed. He looked away and coughed lightly. "...Grandmother looks well. She can be discharged."
The previously energetic Eleanor immediately clutched her chest, weak. "You brat, my heart still hurts."
If she was discharged, how could she make her grandson and granddaughter-in-law live together?
She had already converted the room into two bedrooms. One for herself, one for her granddaughter-in-law. The outer living room for her grandson to sleep in.
It was a bit cramped, but they could see each other every day...
Once they developed feelings, she would take her granddaughter-in-law back to the Vance family!
Eleanor chuckled to herself, showing no sign of illness.
Alexander: "..."
Evelyn: "..."
The night passed quietly.
The next morning, Evelyn was studying neurology books when she received a call from her senior, Daniel. "Evelyn, come back to school quickly! Professor Lowell is in trouble!"
Evelyn frowned. "I'll be right there."
She stood up with a serious expression and hurried out.
She called a cab while heading downstairs.
Thomas's voice came from behind. "Miss Ross, sir asked me to drive you."
Evelyn didn't stop walking. "San Francisco University, thank you."
...
The car barely stopped when Evelyn rushed out, running straight to Professor Lowell's office.
The office door was wide open, crowded with students.
Evelyn squeezed through. Professor Lowell was red-faced, glaring at the Dean of the Energy School. He said sharply, "A student's academic record affects their entire life! How can you expel her just like that?! Last time, you bypassed me and revoked her guaranteed graduate admission based on character and background! Without a reasonable explanation today, don't think about leaving this door!"
Evelyn was slightly stunned.
She thought something had happened to Professor Lowell, but he was standing up for her.
Expulsion?
She looked at the dean. The beer-bellied dean said seriously, "I just received news. She stole Dr. Nan's solution and claimed it as her own! Such a student tarnishes the school's reputation and must be severely punished!"
Professor Lowell angrily retorted, "Impossible! Evelyn would never do such a thing!"
The dean sneered. "The internal news is absolutely true! The school is trying to hire Dr. Nan as a professor. How can we争取 Dr. Nan without punishing her? Do you know how many schools are competing for him?"
Professor Lowell suddenly understood. "So it's all for Dr. Nan! But I am her advisor. I won't sign, and you can't expel her! I will never sign this!"
The dean was furious. "Lowell, don't be unreasonable! What is one Evelyn worth? Even you, what do you have to compare with Dr. Nan?!"
Evelyn stepped forward. "Without my teacher, there would be no Dr. Nan!"
