Chapter 340

Chloe Roland stared intently at James Klein.

Her gaze was sharp as a blade.

James felt extremely uncomfortable under her scrutiny.

He instinctively took half a step back.

Chloe suddenly closed the distance between them.

Her voice trembled. "James, tell me the truth."

Cold sweat beaded on James's forehead.

He stammered, "Miss Roland, what do you want to know?"

Chloe clenched her fists. "Why does Evelyn Ross know about new energy technology?"

Her eyes burned with intensity. "Is she... is it her?"

James was taken aback.

He immediately shook his head. "Of course not!"

The light in Chloe's eyes instantly dimmed.

James hurried to explain. "Evelyn is our boss's twin sister."

He sighed. "After the boss passed, the company should rightfully go to the immediate family."

Chloe froze.

She murmured, "So the company that belonged to our savior... now belongs to Evelyn?"

James nodded. "Yes."

This was the story he had prepared for outsiders.

The two companies were about to merge.

This reason was flawless.

He had to protect his boss's identity.

Chloe seemed to believe him.

But her expression suddenly turned sorrowful.

She asked softly, "So you all... have accepted Evelyn as your new master?"

James didn't understand her meaning.

He answered honestly. "I'm not sure about Mr. Vance's situation."

Chloe's eyes widened abruptly.

Her voice rose sharply. "You called her 'boss'?!"

James panicked internally.

He quickly tried to cover. "It was a slip of the tongue... She is my employer now..."

But Chloe completely broke down.

She screamed, "How could you call her that!"

Tears streamed from her eyes. "That title belonged only to our savior!"

James was at a loss.

Chloe grabbed her brother's arm.

She cried hoarsely, "Brother! Cancel all cooperation! Make him leave!"

Ryan Roland immediately stepped between them.

He pointed expressionlessly toward the door. "Mr. Klein, please leave."

James still wanted to explain.

But Chloe was already hysterical. "Get out!"

Her condition was clearly unstable.

James had no choice but to leave.

He walked out of the Roland family's door dejectedly.

Behind him, Chloe's cries echoed. "No one can replace our savior!"

Then came the sound of something heavy hitting the floor.

Chloe had fainted again.

Ryan quickly picked up his sister.

Mr. and Mrs. Roland rushed over upon hearing the noise.

They were both terrified to see their daughter's state.

Mrs. Roland panicked. "What happened?"

Mr. Roland demanded sternly, "Weren't you taking her out to relax?"

Ryan briefly explained the situation.

Both parents fell silent.

Mr. Roland finally made a decision. "Cancel the cooperation."

Mrs. Roland's eyes reddened. "Alexander Vance has gone too far..."

Ryan and his father exchanged a look.

They both tacitly chose not to respond.

Evelyn Ross received a call from James.

She was surprised. "They made you leave?"

James complained resentfully. "They showed no consideration at all…"

Evelyn cut him off. "Chloe isn't that kind of person."

James muttered quietly, "She's become very extreme now…"

Evelyn said sternly, "Enough."

She hung up and fell into thought.

Alexander Vance had approached without her noticing.

He spoke softly. "Should I try to mediate?"

Evelyn was startled.

She hesitated. "No need…"

But Alexander insisted. "Let Thomas handle it."

Evelyn finally nodded. "Alright."

She was about to return to work.

But Alexander held her arm.

He said with concern, "Get up and walk around. Sitting too long isn't good."

Evelyn stretched and stood up.

The man's warm hand supported her waist.

Evelyn froze.

Alexander seemed slightly uncomfortable. "Be careful not to strain your back."

Evelyn looked puzzled. "Are you feeling unwell? Or do I have a terminal illness?"
