Grace Valentine and Evelyn Ross!
Marcus Valentine's words made Evelyn's eyes flicker.
Was Mr.Valentine really her father?
She had suspected it for a while.
But her mother Sophia Ashcroft's words, "We shall not meet again in life or death," had kept her from confirming it.
Marcus lifted his chin, expecting to see shocked expressions.
He looked at Grace, thinking she would be overjoyed.
But the woman just stood there calmly, expressionless.
Marcus was stunned.
He then looked at Kevin Sherwood.
Kevin patted his shoulder with a laugh. "Nephew, going this far for a project?"
"Everyone knows how hard your father and second uncle tried for a daughter."
"They ended up with seven sons."
"They had to adopt two distant cousins... Where did this new cousin come from?"
Marcus tried to explain.
Kevin cut him off. "The project is good. Let's work together."
"What do you think, Miss Nan?"
Evelyn's gaze swept over Mina Sherwood and Marcus.
She raised an eyebrow. "Let Mina handle it."
"Deal! It's settled!"
Kevin looked at Marcus. "Did you bring the contract? Let's discuss the details."
"Alright. Miss Nan, you..."
Evelyn checked the time. "I have something to do. Director Flores will take charge."
"Sure thing!"
The newly appointed Director Flores immediately straightened his back.
Mina stayed to discuss the cooperation.
Evelyn nodded at her and prepared to leave by taxi.
She had agreed to divorce Zack Davis today.
She needed to get the divorce certificate quickly to avoid complications.
After taking two steps, she heard footsteps behind her.
Turning around, she saw Marcus following her.
He was studying her. "Grace, you really are my cousin."
Evelyn replied, "...You've mistaken me for someone else."
Marcus thought she didn't believe him.
After all, no one could refuse such a family background.
He said, "Next time, I'll bring you the DNA test results."
He continued to examine her.
Evelyn immediately adopted Grace's characteristic gentle and timid demeanor.
Seeing the familiar features with an unfamiliar expression, Marcus thought of the bold woman from San Francisco.
He was momentarily distracted.
He suddenly asked, "Did you attend Mrs. Vance Evelyn Ross's funeral?"
Evelyn lowered her eyes. "Yes."
"Zack wanted to curry favor. He took me there."
"He said I was Mrs. Vance's high school classmate."
Marcus fell silent.
After a while, he sighed. "Then have you seen Alexander Vance?"
Hearing that name, Evelyn's heart clenched.
It felt like an invisible hand was squeezing it.
For the past month, she had worked hard to imitate Grace.
She took care of Chloe.
At night, she read Grace's diary.
She searched for traces of "the Nan family" to save her mother.
She tried to forget that name.
But when Marcus mentioned it, she realized Alexander Vance was like a thorn buried deep in her bones.
It hurt at the slightest touch.
She lowered her eyes. "Yes, I've seen him."
"Has Alexander Vance seen you?" Marcus asked curiously.
He had already investigated Grace's life.
He was sure the person before him was Grace, not Evelyn.
Evelyn countered, "Mr. Valentine, what do you mean?"
Marcus sensed her displeasure. He explained, "Alexander has been in pain since Mrs. Vance passed away."
"He hasn't moved on."
Evelyn was slightly stunned.
She tightened her jaw.
He hadn't moved on only because there hadn't been enough time!
Time could heal all wounds.
Besides, he still had his Unattainable Love and his savior to accompany...
Marcus sighed. "Forget it. There's no point talking about this."
"You don't know them."
"Where are you going now?"
Evelyn looked down without speaking.
Marcus realized something. "To divorce Zack?"
Evelyn paused, then nodded.
Marcus misunderstood her expression. "Still can't bear to part with that scumbag?"
"Grace, I'm speechless. Can't you be stronger?"
Evelyn remained silent.
Marcus said disdainfully, "Lift your head up!"
"What's there to be ashamed of?"
"Looking like a doormat every day..."
"I'm not used to seeing Evelyn's face with that expression!"
Evelyn was puzzled.
Marcus continued, "Can't you be more assertive?"
"Speaking of which, you also have the surname Valentine. You should be Grace Valentine..."
He stopped speaking.
Grace Valentine... Evelyn Ross?
He paused. "Never mind. The name isn't important."
"Be more forceful! Don't let people push you around!"
"Even if you can't be like Evelyn, at least have a third of her presence!"
Evelyn held back her irritation. "Mr. Valentine, did you eat too much?"
Marcus replied, "I haven't eaten..."
"Hey, are you saying I'm meddling in your business?"
Evelyn had already hailed a taxi and gotten in.
The car drove away.
Marcus was furious. "I was trying to help her! And she says that to me!"
His assistant said, "...Mr. Valentine, the car is here."
Marcus got into the car angrily. "Follow them."
The assistant was confused.
Marcus couldn't help adding, "She's my only blood-related cousin."
"I can't just watch her get bullied alone."
The taxi arrived at City Hall.
Evelyn got out and walked inside.
She saw Zack Davis and Kelsey Lopez waiting impatiently.
Zack stepped forward. "Grace, why are you so late?"
"Don't want to get divorced?"
Kelsey immediately said, "Hurry up! Zack doesn't love you anymore."
