Help!
Zack Davis stared at Grace Nan, his eyes dark and unreadable.
He spoke in a low voice. "Fine. I'll think of something."
He grabbed Kelsey Lopez's arm and turned to leave.
Kelsey immediately understood his concern. "Get a divorce. Once you're divorced, you have no obligations!"
She was carrying Zack's child and naturally wanted what was best for him.
But Zack frowned deeply. "Divorce is the stupidest option! Wouldn't these three years have been for nothing?"
He had been married to Grace Nan for three years. He couldn't just walk away with nothing.
Kelsey was unwilling. "Then what should we do?"
"There's another way…" Zack narrowed his eyes. "Back in San Francisco, she was quite close to Mr. Valentine the Third. We'll find Mr. Valentine. If he speaks up, Sherwood Group will definitely drop the lawsuit!"
They hurried away.
Inside the villa, Evelyn Ross's phone lit up.
A WhatsApp notification: Mina Sherwood has added you as a friend.
Mina sent a message:
[Blocked you for five minutes to get back at you for blocking me for half a year! Hehe~]
[So? Did he agree to the divorce?]
Evelyn replied: [Not yet.]
Mina: [Then what?]
Evelyn: [He doesn't seem willing to give up. As long as Sherwood doesn't drop the suit, he'll get desperate eventually. Don't worry.]
The chat box showed "Mina is typing…"
Ten minutes passed, but no new message appeared.
Evelyn asked: [Are you busy?]
Mina replied immediately: [No. I just feel like you've changed.]
Evelyn's fingers paused.
Mina sent another message: [Grace, no matter how you change, I'll always be on your side. The past you, the present you, the future you. As long as it's you, I'll always be here for you!]
Evelyn stared at the screen, suddenly stunned.
Playing the role of her sister, this was the first time she had experienced the warmth of friendship.
She almost blurted out: I'm not Grace anymore…
But after a long silence, she only replied: [Thank you for liking Grace so much.]
The words were a bit strange.
But Grace often said odd things, so Mina didn't suspect anything.
Before she could put her phone down, her uncle at the opposite table snorted derisively. "Mina, secure this client, and I'll help you keep your position as project team leader. Focus later. Don't be distracted."
Mina immediately put down her phone. "Don't worry, Uncle. I'll perform well."
She needed this job.
After the divorce, she still had to find a way to withdraw the lawsuit or raise those twenty million… She couldn't lose her job.
Her uncle's eyes held a hint of mockery. "Mr. Locsitant can be crude with his words. Don't offend him."
Mina nodded. "Understood."
As soon as she finished speaking, the private room door was knocked.
A large, heavyset man walked in.
He was around forty, with a greasy complexion.
After shaking hands with Uncle Sherwood, he immediately fixed his eyes on Mina. "Mr. Sherwood, who is this? I haven't seen her before!"
Uncle Sherwood smiled. "My fourth brother's daughter. She's interning at Sherwood. I brought her out to see the world."
Mr. Locsitant's eyes lit up. "So it's Miss Sherwood. A pleasure…"
He extended his hand.
Mina shook it. His palm was unpleasantly damp and sticky.
She tried to pull her hand back, but he held on tightly.
She looked at her uncle for help.
Her uncle just smiled. "Mr. Locsitant, please take a seat! The food is getting cold!"
Mr. Locsitant reluctantly let go and sat down, leering.
Uncle Sherwood and Mr. Locsitant discussed the contract briefly.
This was her uncle's important project. Securing it would earn the main branch's approval.
But Mr. Locsitant avoided talking about the contract, instead glancing repeatedly at Mina.
Her uncle signaled with his eyes. "Mina, Mr. Locsitant thinks highly of you. Offer him a toast."
Mina was disgusted by the look in Mr. Locsitant's eyes.
Reluctantly, she picked up her glass and walked over. "Uncle Liu, my uncle often mentions you. He says you're good friends. A toast from your junior!"
Her words clearly defined their generational difference.
Mr. Locsitant's expression darkened instantly.
Uncle Sherwood shot Mina a warning look and signaled to Mr. Locsitant.
Mina didn't notice her uncle's glance. She only saw Mr. Locsitant suddenly stand up. "Alright, niece. Your uncle will make sure to take good care of you in the future!"
Mina breathed a sigh of relief and downed her drink in one go.
She looked at her uncle. "Uncle, I just remembered I have work. Please enjoy the meal with Uncle Liu. I should go."
She grabbed her purse, ready to leave.
Even a fool could see something was wrong now. She couldn't stay!
But after just two steps, a wave of dizziness hit her. Her legs felt weak.
Mina looked sharply at the glass she had just emptied. She stared at her uncle in disbelief!!
She had thought her uncle was just using her looks to help secure the contract.
She never imagined he would drug her drink!
This completely shattered her understanding of him!
She rushed to the door and yanked it open.
She wasn't trying to escape. She just wanted to call for help from anyone passing by.
But she never expected the person walking past to be Marcus Valentine.
Hearing the noise, he turned around in surprise.
Their eyes met.
The plea for help caught in her throat.
Mina froze.
Her mind flashed back to Marcus's scornful words during their blind date: "...Sure enough, she's just a good-for-nothing, a vase with only looks.
If he found out she was using her looks to secure a business deal, he would look down on her even more.
"Niece, you've had too much to drink! Here, have some sobering tea…"
Her uncle suddenly approached, grabbing her arm and pulling her back into the room. He moved to close the door.
Just as the door was about to shut, a hand shot out and forcefully stopped it.
