Chapter 281

Daughter?

Mr. Valentine the Third hadn't been to the company recently.

After Sophia Ashcroft went missing, he handed all group affairs over to Marcus Valentine.

He used all his connections to search for his wife.

Unfortunately, there were still no leads.

Marcus entered the study and placed a document on the desk.

Mr. Valentine glanced at it, his pupils contracting. "Is she really a Valentine?"

Marcus nodded. "The doctor said although she's not Second Uncle's biological child, the match is very high. She should be his niece."

Mr. Valentine was stunned. "Not your second uncle's? Your second uncle was quite the playboy in his youth…"

He had originally thought Evelyn Ross was William Ashcroft's illegitimate daughter.

Marcus frowned. "If not Second Uncle's, then whose? Our family only has three brothers…"

He stopped mid-sentence and looked at Mr. Valentine.

Mr. Valentine raised an eyebrow. "What?"

The words burst from Marcus. "Could she be your daughter? Her surname is Nan, and the one you're looking for is also Nan… That's not a common surname!"

"Absolutely impossible."

Mr. Valentine's tone was resolute. "I know what I've done. Since she's not your second uncle's, then she must be your father's. Go do a DNA test. If she's your half-sister, take care of her. Our family lacks daughters!"

Marcus was speechless.

He silently exited the study and headed towards his parents' residence.

His father was completely henpecked. How could he possibly have an illegitimate child?

Marcus paused mid-step, a sudden smirk curling his lips.

He pulled a short strand of hair from his pocket.

"Since we suspect my father, we can't let Third Uncle off the hook either."

He quietly entered his father's bedroom and took a toothbrush.

He handed both items to his assistant. "Send them to the testing center. Rush it."

His secretary hurried in. "Mr. Valentine, I think I saw Alexander Vance in New York."

Marcus scoffed. "Impossible. He has a psychological aversion to New York. He would never come. You're seeing things."

The secretary scratched his head. "Maybe…"

Marcus changed the subject. "What about the thing I asked you to look into?"

The secretary immediately handed over a file. "Evelyn Ross. Birth mother unknown, seems like an orphan. Adoptive parents are from an ordinary background. She attended a second-rate university. After graduation, she married her college boyfriend. He moved into her family home. She handed the company over to her husband, Zack Davis, to manage…"

Marcus raised an eyebrow. "And then?"

The secretary's expression turned peculiar. "After she got pregnant, she stayed home to focus on her husband and child. She never worked again."

Marcus was stunned. "Her parents put her through university just so she could be a housewife? Is her husband very good to her?"

The secretary coughed. "Quite the opposite. Zack Davis cheated on her not long after the marriage, but she seemed unaware. Her friend Mina Sherwood tried to warn her, but she accused Mina of trying to drive a wedge between them…"

Marcus's mouth twitched. "Go on."

The secretary continued. "Later, Zack Davis said Mina kept speaking ill of her. He told her to cut ties with Mina. She actually blocked Mina."

Marcus was utterly speechless. "She's that stupid? Let a man manipulate her so easily? Third Uncle said she had a free-spirited personality?"

The secretary also found it unbelievable. "What's even more absurd is something that just happened today."

Marcus pressed. "What?"

"Evelyn somehow got back in touch with Mina. She tricked Mina into signing a contract with Zack Davis… It seems she did it to win back Zack's affection."

"Damn it!" Marcus couldn't hold back. "How can a woman be this stupid!"

The secretary nodded vigorously. "Yes, why not just get a divorce? She's really…"

Marcus took a deep breath. "Third Uncle is usually a good judge of character. He was way off this time."

His face was full of disdain. "I really hope this woman isn't my sister. She'd drag down the Valentine family's IQ!"

The secretary reminded him quietly. "Mr. Valentine the Third seems intent on acknowledging her once her identity is confirmed…"

Marcus shot to his feet. "I don't want a relative like that! Keep an eye on her. Give the DNA results to me first when they come in. Don't give them to Third Uncle!"

"Yes."

After the secretary left, Marcus still wore a look of disgust. "Hopelessly stupid!"

Meanwhile.

At the Nan Family Villa.

Mrs. Davis held Kelsey Lopez's hand. "Kelsey, don't worry about her. Once you give birth to my grandson, I'll make sure you enter this family! If she doesn't want a divorce, that's fine too. We'll just have an extra live-in maid. She's an excellent cook!"

Kelsey giggled flirtatiously. "Auntie, I'm not a bad cook either. Let me show you today?"

She then deliberately covered her mouth and pretended to dry heave.

Mrs. Davis quickly stopped her. "Oh, you're pregnant! You can't go into the kitchen. Let Evelyn do it. What would you like to eat?"

Kelsey looked at Evelyn Ross, who was wiping a table, and smiled slightly. "I'd like fish. It's just a bit troublesome to prepare…"

Evelyn never expected Zack would actually dare to bring Kelsey home tonight.

These two people's shamelessness kept exceeding her expectations.

Mrs. Davis yelled at her. "Did you hear that? Go prepare the fish now!"
