Chapter 279

Mina’s brows instantly furrowed.

She stared at Grace.

Grace pressed her lips together, trying to appear gentle.

Mina looked her up and down, then suddenly stood and walked over.

She reached out to feel Grace’s forehead.

Grace was speechless.

“No fever. Why are you talking nonsense? Back then, you refused to say who they were. You said it would endanger me. Why are you asking me now?”

Grace experienced Evelynge’s meticulousness for the first time.

At least in this matter, she hadn’t made a mistake.

Grace let out a faint “oh,” her expression calm. “I was afraid you might have found out something. It seems you really don’t know. That’s for the best.”

Mina was successfully misled. “Grace, you’re too cautious. Didn’t you say you didn’t even complete the first task? They wouldn’t come looking for you again.”

Grace was startled. “The first task?”

“Yeah. You said the first task involved someone very important to you, so you refused…”

Someone very important…

Grace frowned. “Who was this important person?”

Mina rolled her eyes. “Who else? Zack Davis! You were head over heels for him back then.”

She added sourly, “Definitely not me.”

She couldn’t help complaining. “I considered you my best friend. We’ve been at the same school since kindergarten. All these years of friendship, and I come after Chloe in your heart. Fine. But I’m even less important than your mother-in-law and Zack. For them, you abandoned me… Forget it. I don’t want to talk about it. It still hurts.”

She was genuinely hurt.

Mina pouted.

Grace didn’t know how to comfort people. She remained silent.

The sound of the door opening came from the entrance.

Mrs. Davis hummed a square dance tune as she walked in.

She didn’t look at the living room and headed straight for the kitchen. “Grace, what’s for dinner? I’m starving after dancing!”

Entering the kitchen, she found it empty.

Mrs. Davis was taken aback. She walked out grumbling. “Grace, what were you doing all afternoon? It’s so late, and you haven’t made dinner?! You…”

She noticed Mina and sneered. “Well, if it isn’t Mina Sherwood? Haven’t seen you in half a year. What? Finally came to your senses? Here to deliver the cooperation agreement to Zack?”

Mina gave a sarcastic smile. “Mrs. Davis, half a year apart, and your bitterness has only grown.”

Mrs. Davis’s face darkened. “How dare you speak to me like that!”

Mina shrugged. “Just calling it as I see it.”

“You!”

Mrs. Davis clutched her chest in anger. She pointed at Grace and yelled, “Grace, are you just going to let her insult me like this? Let me tell you, her treating me this way means she doesn’t respect you! Otherwise, why would she make things difficult for you?”

“Grace, kick her out right now! And don’t you dare see her again, or I’ll tell Zack you let your friend come here and bully me!”

Mina’s jaw tightened.

She looked at Grace.

This was exactly what happened six months ago.

Zack and his mother’s words made Grace block her.

Later, she ran into Zack. He shamelessly said that if her family’s company cooperated with him, he would make Grace add her back.

Mina was furious.

She felt Zack was treating friendship like a commodity to be bargained with.

She was worried for Grace. She was frustrated that Grace was so blind to have fallen for someone like that.

But Mina was also afraid…

Afraid that Grace would be influenced by Mrs. Davis’s words again…

Mina didn’t dare speak.

Mrs. Davis became more arrogant. “What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue? You had plenty to say earlier.”

Mina took a deep breath.

Even though Grace mentioned divorce, she hadn’t fully committed yet. As anxious as she was, Mina knew this was Grace’s life. She couldn’t make decisions for her.

Not wanting to put Grace in a difficult position, Mina stood up. “Grace, I’ll head out. Contact me if you need anything.”

She started walking toward the door.

Grace followed. “Okay, I’ll see you out.”

Mina paused, her heart feeling empty.

Grace clearly hadn’t made up her mind yet.

Her jaw tightened. She turned back at the door. “Grace, you can always work hard again for anything else. But freedom is your own. Don’t forget what you said earlier.”

Grace nodded calmly. “No rush. I have a plan.”

How could Mina not be anxious?

She wanted to say more, but after their previous fallout, she was afraid of pushing too hard and getting blocked again. She held back her words and left with a conflicted expression.

After Mina left, Grace turned around.

Mrs. Davis sneered. “What are you looking at? Hurry up and make dinner! You’re so dull and clumsy. How can you compare to Kelsey? No wonder Zack never comes home!”

Grace’s eyes darkened.

The corners of her lips curled into a faint smile. “Okay, I’ll get right to it.”

Taking back everything that rightfully belonged to Evelynge was effortless for her. She already had a plan.

Chloe needed to eat too. Since that was the case…

Grace walked into the kitchen.

She quickly prepared three dishes and a soup. After setting the table, she went upstairs to bring Chloe down.

The three of them sat at the table to eat.

Grace served food for Chloe.

Mrs. Davis took a reluctant bite. Her eyes lit up. “Grace, the food is quite good today.”

Grace said lightly, “Yeah, I followed an online tutorial.”

She lowered her gaze.

Using her skills as a disciple of a master chef to spoil Mrs. Davis’s palate was the first step of her revenge!

She had many straightforward ways to force Zack to leave with nothing.

But she didn’t want to expose her identity. She needed to avoid using her past identity as much as possible to avoid arousing “their” suspicion again. Besides, Evelynge had suffered for so many years. She had to make them pay.

Not only would she get a divorce, but after the divorce, she would make sure the scumbag, the other woman, and the wicked mother-in-law all got what they deserved!!

That night, Mina tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep.

After leaving earlier, she had thought about turning back to give Grace a few more words of advice. But through the glass window, she saw Grace obediently going into the kitchen to cook for Mrs. Davis. The sight made her heart sink.

Would Grace Nan really get a divorce?

She loved Zack so much that a single threat from him made her block her best friend.

Zack would never initiate a divorce for the sake of the company’s money and the house. If Zack said a few sweet words, wouldn’t Grace just soften again?

Mina took a deep breath and turned over again.

After a while, she suddenly sat up. “You’ve got to be kidding me. Is Grace sick? After all that, she’s still cooking for that wicked mother-in-law?! She was definitely lying about getting a divorce! Liar! I’m blocking her. That way, she can’t abandon me again or block me first!”

Thinking this, her eyes reddened.

She immediately picked up her phone, fuming as she was about to block Grace Nan, whom she had just added back. Suddenly, a message popped up in the chat interface…
