Chapter 252

White cloth draped the Vance estate.

A long line of cars waited to pay their respects.

Zack Davis's car was stuck in traffic.

He honked the horn impatiently.

Mrs. Davis peered out the window.

Her eyes gleamed. "This entire estate belongs to the Vances? It's so grand!"

Zack licked his lips. "This is a rare chance to go inside and see for ourselves."

Evelyn Ross sat in silence.

She only cared if the corpse was her sister.

Zack saw her expressionless face and scowled. "Grace, don't embarrass us later. Be smart about this!"

Little Chloe had just woken up. She hugged Evelyn. "Daddy, don't yell at Mommy!"

Evelyn's eyes turned cold.

She remembered Zack pulling her sister's hair.

Did this man abuse her?

Her fists clenched.

Zack sneered. "I won't hit her if she behaves."

Chloe looked at Evelyn timidly. "Mommy, behave..."

The little girl's eyes resembled Evelyn's.

But they held fear.

Evelyn gently patted her head. "Don't be afraid, Chloe. No one will hit Mommy anymore."

She couldn't bear to tell the child the truth.

Mrs. Davis spoke with a mocking tone. "Oh, as if you could really do anything~"

Zack ignored her.

The line of cars slowly moved forward.

Chloe's stomach suddenly growled.

Evelyn realized the child hadn't eaten anything during the trip.

She frowned. "Is there any food?"

"In the bag. Look for it yourself," Mrs. Davis said carelessly.

Evelyn found some spicy snacks.

Mrs. Davis snatched them away and shared them with Zack.

Evelyn kept searching and found a can of formula.

"How do I prepare the formula?"

Mrs. Davis pursed her lips. "With hot water. Where would we get hot water in the car?"

Evelyn suppressed her anger. "Why didn't you bring water for Chloe?"

Mrs. Davis retorted defiantly. "You always prepared it. It's not my problem. Skipping one meal won't kill her!"

Evelyn pressed further. "When did she last eat? Did she have breakfast?"

Mrs. Davis avoided her gaze.

Evelyn understood immediately.

She looked at Chloe.

The little girl was pale, sweating, and secretly chewing her finger.

She had low blood sugar.

Evelyn made a decision. "I'll ask the Vances for hot water."

She reached for the car door.

The door was locked.

Zack yelled sharply. "Are you crazy? We're here for a funeral. Bringing a child is inappropriate!"

Mrs. Davis chimed in. "Exactly. Skipping two meals won't kill her. Don't cause trouble for us!"

Evelyn said coldly. "Is a child's life less important than a funeral?"

Zack was impatient. "Just let her eat some spicy strips to tide her over!"

Mrs. Davis rolled her eyes. "She's just a burden anyway. It's better if she's gone."

Evelyn was furious.

She suddenly pointed under the car. "There's a rat!"

Mrs. Davis screamed in fear.

Zack instinctively unlocked the doors.

Evelyn immediately grabbed Chloe and the bottle, rushing out of the car.

Zack realized what happened and chased after her, grabbing her arm. "Get back here!"

Evelyn struggled. "Let go!"

Zack said viciously. "Grace, don't push your luck! You're nothing in front of the Vances!"

As they struggled, Thomas Watson heard the commotion and approached.

He wore a black suit with a white flower on his chest. He frowned. "What's going on here?"

Evelyn turned around sharply.

Her eyes lit up when she saw Thomas.
