The Bentley sped down the road.
Evelyn Ross gripped her seatbelt tightly.
Her knuckles were white.
She had never felt such urgency.
If she was Sophia Ashcroft's daughter…
The thought made her heart race.
The car stopped in front of the Ashcroft residence.
Evelyn pushed the door open.
She turned to Alexander Vance. "Wait for me."
She walked toward the main entrance.
The door suddenly swung open.
William Ashcroft and Sophia Ashcroft rushed out.
William's arm was covered in blood.
His face was deathly pale.
Sophia supported him, her voice trembling. "William, hold on. We're going to the hospital…"
Their driver was absent.
Nancy Ashcroft couldn't operate a vehicle.
William was in no condition to drive.
Sophia spotted Evelyn. She cried out urgently, "Evelyn! Take us to the hospital!"
Evelyn immediately moved to assist.
The three of them got into the car.
Alexander stepped on the accelerator.
At the hospital emergency room.
William had lost too much blood.
He was nearly unconscious.
Sophia couldn't support his weight alone.
Evelyn stepped forward to help steady him.
A nurse checked William and exclaimed, "He needs a transfusion! Blood type?"
William answered weakly, "AB."
The nurse hurried off to procure blood.
A gurney was wheeled toward the operating room.
Sophia clutched William's hand. "Don't close your eyes. Look at me…"
They disappeared down the corridor.
Evelyn stood frozen in place.
Her expression changed abruptly.
All joy vanished in an instant.
A cold dread washed over her.
Alexander noticed her shift. "What's wrong?"
Evelyn murmured, "He's blood type AB."
Alexander frowned.
"I'm type O," Evelyn said, her voice shaking.
Alexander fell silent.
Linda Lowell rushed into the hospital. "William! Where is he? Is he alright?"
She grabbed Evelyn's arm. "Where is he?"
Evelyn looked directly at her. "Is he really my father?"
Linda flustered, "Of course he is!"
Evelyn gave a cold laugh. "Can an AB blood type father produce an O type child?"
Linda's face went pale.
She covered Evelyn's mouth.
She dragged her to a secluded area.
"Be quiet! If you're not his daughter, how can I stay with the Ashcrofts?"
Evelyn's gaze turned sharp. "Who is my real father?"
Linda's eyes darted away. "I don't know… There were several men at the time…"
She grew more composed as she spoke. "I used you to get into the Ashcroft family. The Ashcrofts don't owe you anything. You owe them!"
Evelyn clenched her fist. "That year when I was four, you sold me to traffickers. Was it for this reason?"
"Yes! If you disappeared, no one would ever find out!" Linda said impatiently.
"Stop looking so offended! It's not like you were ever close to him anyway. You've left the Ashcroft house now. Don't ruin this for me!"
She hurried off toward the patient rooms.
Evelyn stood there, stunned.
Alexander took her wrist. "Weren't we going for a DNA test? Let's go."
