No eggs on the coop floor? Check these three places

A bare coop does not necessarily mean the chicken failed to lay. Check the bird’s age and last meal, then check whether equipment collected the egg before you arrived.

Check whether this bird can lay today

Chicks need three fed nights to grow into adults. If you bought a chick today, do not use tomorrow’s empty floor as a test of your coop layout. An adult chicken ordinarily lays daily when cared for and fed. Check yesterday’s food supply as well as the animal’s status. Hay in a silo is not necessarily on the feeding bench in a basic or Big Coop. Fill the bench before night and inspect the next morning.

Look for an egg where collection happens

Without an Auto-Grabber, inspect walkable floor tiles inside the coop. A chest, machine or dense decoration can hide the view or leave too little empty floor for products. Move one obstruction and look behind it before changing the whole room. With an Auto-Grabber installed, open the machine’s inventory and check for ordinary eggs there. Outdoor grazing does not mean ordinary eggs are laid where the grass is; return to the coop to look.

Inside a populated coop, inspect the open floor and check any installed collection machine.

Separate egg size from shell color

A happy well-befriended mature hen can lay a large egg instead of a normal one. An empty floor calls for the production check above; a floor full of regular eggs calls for better care. Keep feeding and petting the hens over multiple days and compare results rather than changing a single heater and expecting an immediate large egg. White and brown chickens produce their respective shell colors. Waiting for a white hen to lay a brown egg will not finish a missing-color collection.
